How Parenting with Presence Can Heal Your Child with Susan Stiffleman

I am a fan of Susan’s first book, Parenting Without Power Struggles. I hand it out to friends and require any nanny we hire to read it. In Parenting Without Power Struggles, Susan talks about parents being captains of the ship with loving, calm, presence.

Now, in Parenting with Presence, Susan explores in greater detail what causes us as parents to go into “lawyer” or “dictator” mode.

“It’s an internal experience. It’s the place inside of us that often is informed, or influenced by our own childhoods. And in the misbehavior or acting out or defiance of our child today, our five year old, our fifteen year old, our nine year old, if we’re starting to get stirred up and we’re coming at our kids rather than alongside them or giving advice they don’t want, we’re punishing and yelling, we’re scolding, we’re shaming, more likely than not, there’s at least some piece of our own childhood that’s kind of emerging with the possibility of being healed.”

Children can present us beautiful shifts if we become aware. When a parent starts to feel the emotion arise, what can we do?

“It’s going to depend on the circumstance…the simplest thing is to notice that you’re breathing. Notice the sounds around you; notice the sensations on your skin. “

Give yourself compassion, some self-nurturing in the moment. If you can get away to the bathroom, narrate to yourself what a nurturing parent would have said to you as a child while patting your heart. The goal is to be present in the moment, present with your own feelings.

Ready to Take a Big Leap?

This week I sat down with Physics Olympian turned Filmmaker, Iram Parveen Bilal, to talk travel, film, and change.

When I travel, I see a completely different story than the news portrays in the United States. So, I was fascinated to hear Iram’s perspective growing up in Nigeria and Pakistan. There are some positive changes taking place. It’s all about perspective. But, there are some bad things still happening too. Iram, even gets nervous about visiting after listening to the news…

“Things are hitting closer to home now for me. My friends, who are journalists, are leaving the country… I feel that, but when I’m on the ground, all I can think about is connecting, and giving, and sharing, and receiving, and there is so much optimism. There is frustration, as well, because of the instability and politics are trickling down to the basic survival of people now.

”Once you become a “global citizen,” you get a different perspective on the world, what is being shared, and what is being left out. In her film JOSh, Iram used the art of media to showcase a new perspective of life in Pakistan.

Working with Media Students on The Film “JOSH” (Against the Grain)

Iram found JOSH to be a platform, not only to share a message, but also to help instigate change in the filmmaking industry in Pakistan. With little infrastructure and a crew with little experience, creating the film was a challenge, but the result? Beautiful. Inspired by a true story, Josh draws viewers into a captivating experience of the struggle between classes in Pakistan and the hope for independence.

“As hard as it was, as a new industry, it was amazing because people were so excited, you know to be on the film. And, now that I look back it, having directed my second feature just recently, also small budget, but here in the US, they did really well for not having any film knowledge, frankly.”

The Inspiration Behind JOSH: The Miracle of the Food Kitchen

A subsidized pantry allows citizens to buy a meal for around 3 cents with reasonable nutrition. Three to four brick and mortar locations, along with distribution areas around Karachi, are feeding many. After being so moved by the film, a gentleman in Melbourne held a fundraiser for the food kitchen. They raised enough money to feed one hundred and forty families for a whole month. The food was purchased, and Iram had a moving experience helping hand out the bags. These precious moments of impact are great, but I asked Iram what she thinks the answer is on a long-term, global scale. I am passionate about being an advocate for women. So, I was curious to hear her thoughts on the potential of media to impact these issues, such as poverty, education, and girl’s rights, on a larger scale. “On one level, it’s content creation, on another level it’s active engagement and time, social interaction, with your projects and with your films, then you try and do your part. One alone cannot change the world, but one alone can inspire others…To answer your question, I think we just, every day of our lives, make a positive, proactive effort to change, to speak out. ”

Project the Life You Want On the Screen of Your Mind

Project the Life You Want On the Screen of Your Mind

Law of Attraction Expert and Entrepreneur, Natalie Ledwell, had an epiphany after watching Rhonda Byrne’s The Secret. Something had finally clicked. Running multiple businesses with her husband Glen and still unable to pay the bills, Natalie knew something was missing…

“My biggest take away from that, was when you know where you want to end up and you can see that repeatedly in your mind and feel the emotions of already living that life, already having that successful business, you don’t need to know the whole plan. You don’t need to know every step, just what the first step is and then the next.” ~Natalie

About this time, good friend of Natalie and her husband Glen’s, Ryan Higgins, had come up with this concept of a moving vision board and shared it with them. Natalie and Glen just knew there was something magical to even this “rough” initial version of a Mind Movie. They all worked together to make this concept of Mind Movies easy and accessible to the masses.

What are Mind Movies?

Mind Movies are a movie version of a vision board with pictures, affirmations, and music personalized for you. The team put up a site about this new concept and began getting emails from people with stories of how this concept was changing their lives. The hobby then turned into a full-blown business. Learning Internet marketing, the team invested $2,000 dollars and made $6,000 back from just their first four emails.

Joining a marketing mastermind and absorbing all the information they could, Ryan, Natalie, and Glen launched Mind Movies and saw massive success despite some setbacks. Due to server and technical issues, the first day of the launch was somewhat of a disaster. The team still made $100,000 in the first hour of the launch! Now, that shows the power of vision!

Reaching over 2.1 million people, Mind Movies has now expanded into multiple products. The team has begun work on a project in Colombia- a children’s version of Mind Movies, with a goal to reach 10,000 underprivileged children there.

So, what truly fuels attracting your desires?

Whatever is a vibrational match to the frequency you are sending out gets attracted back to you. Like attracts like. We have to get passionate about what we “Do Want,” rather than what we do not want.

How do you get out of “stress” mode and stay in your vision?

“When we were particularly stressed, we would leave the apartment, get a coffee, we would go down to the dog beach because we knew how important it was for us to change our state, to change our vibration and get out of that stressful, negative vortex.”

To break up with “stress mode,” change your state – your vibration. @natalie_ledwell @MindMovies1@mistressoftea http://cbsloc.al/1FOiDLD

3 Steps:

       1) Change your state

       2) See yourself achieving success in present tense (visualize with others whenever possible)

       3) Watch your Mind Movie for an extra boost of power

Natalie has personally used these steps to manifest many things including the new talk show Wake Up. Wake Up is a show for women by women on alternative health, entrepreneurship, and connection. If you missed that post, check it out here: https://www.zhena.tv/life/get-ready-to…wake-up

Medical Intuitive and Inventor Julie Ryan

What is a Medical Intuitive?

“What I do is I can raise my vibrational level to a very fast rate, and I can communicate with spirits, and I can also read people’s energy fields. And, this is normally done remotely… I look at their energy field, and it’s almost like I have an MRI or CT scanner X-ray in my head on a big screen TV. And, I can see broken bones, and I can see ligaments, bacterial infections, viral infections, cancer, pregnancies…I see a ball of energy.” ~Julie Ryan

“Feeling led” to study the medical intuitive field over 20 years ago, Julie took classes for 8 or 9 years and continued to develop her skill. Being with her own mother during her transition, Julie began to see what happens when someone is dying, the spirit guides and angels around. Julie had a past Pope reveal himself to her during that time tell her to continue to do what she does.

How do you mix business and entrepreneurship with the spirit world? “What I find is people are fascinated by this.” Julie believes everyone can develop these skills if you learn to tap into your intuition.

What can you do to be more intentional with your intuitive skills?

“Spirits are very literal.” ~Julie Ryan http://cbsloc.al/1DFmZHf @mistressoftea

  • Ask specific, literal questions in a multitude of ways
Example: Is it in my best intention to ________? (Can ask for yourself or other people, as well)
  • Realize that free will is a huge component
  • Intuition precedes your intellect; so listen to the answer you get in the first few seconds.

12 Phases of Transition

Spirit exists the body through the head, closest to the deceased then surround. The maternal spirit runs the show, and the person has an escort of spirits…

“As they’re dying, every person goes through the Twelve Phases of Transition. Please know your loved one, and eventually all of us, are surrounded by angels and the spirits of deceased family and friends as we transition from human into spirit form.”
(Chart Available at http://www.askjulieryan.com/12-phases-of-transition/)

Spirit appears in the best and purest forms without the drama. We can help stop negative family cycles by asking “How can we bring joy, how can we bring a better experience to ourselves and our loved ones?”

The Spinal Surgeons Guide to Ending Pain without Surgery

At age 40, Doctor David Hanscom experienced his first panic attack while driving over a bridge. Before that he didn’t know what anxiety was like or the chaos it can cause. Doctor Hanscom’s problem developed into an extreme anxiety disorder that spanned 13 years. He learned, “The rational brain cannot win over the subconscious brain.”

The Root of Chronic Pain
Doctor Hanscom believes that anxiety is at the root of chronic pain. “If you think about this carefully, your entire body is revolved around avoiding anxiety.” Anxiety affects every organ in the body, affecting your pain levels, and thus your emotions. It starts a cycle of anxiety-pain, anxiety-pain, etc. The brain gets more ingrained with the anxiety and adrenaline cycle over time.

“Every human being has crazy thoughts in their brain just by definition because the brain works by association. So, you get some crazy associations in there that are sort of random and by tossing those aside you just give them power.” ~Dr. Hanscom

It is often the people who care most that burnout from thought suppression. http://cbsloc.al/1BJZXc7 @DrDavidHanscom @mistressoftea

Through a book, Hanscom learned you could shift your thoughts through writing them out. Expressive writing helped profoundly, and this was the beginning of his process development. “What the writing does is sort of separate you from the noise in your head.” By adding in active meditation, better sleep, exercise, and positive substitution, Hanscom had discovered a formula for releasing pain.

By tossing random thoughts aside, you give them power. What can you do instead?

The Process to Change the Way Your Brain Behaves Awareness ~ Detachment ~Reprogramming

1. Write down exactly how you feel (grandiose, delusional, depressed, angry…no matter). 10-15 minutes morning and night can be the most helpful. Look at it and separate yourself from it as much as possible.
2. Positive Substitution (This is not the same as “positive thinking.” You want to replace the anxious behaviors with something more relaxing- art, music, etc. Something active.)
3. Sleep (If you wake up in the middle of the night, try the negative writing. Get the thoughts down on paper. Then go back to sleep. Sleep is crucial.)
4. Exercise- specifically weight lifting which helps shift your pain (The experience of exercising in a gym is best).
5. Forgiveness. Compassion plays a deep role in healing ourselves.

Medication may be necessary in the beginning, but the goal is to use these other processes to eliminate the need. You have to be willing to give up the victim role and change. You have to understand that mental pain and physical pain are processed in the same part of the brain. “Anxiety, anger, and pain are all the same thing, so when pain drops anxiety drops, and when anxiety drops pain drops.”

Eventually, you put your nervous system in a new alternative and your brain starts to physically change. The pain, anxiety, and adrenaline begin to drop. It is not a one-time fix. It is a process that you need to continue for the health of your body and emotional system. As you become more aware of your body’s responses, you can become more aware of when to change your patterns and environment.

70% of the US population is on pharmaceuticals at any given time. 70 Million suffer from chronic pain. It’s time to change the game and look at ways to heal without side effects. One spinal surgeon has found the way. David A. Hanscom, M.D – is an Orthopedic Spine Surgeon who helps patients heal chronic pain without surgery or meds…but how? Through a method of sleep, emotional healing, and forgiveness, he has a 100% success rate in helping his patients manage chronic pain. He offers success though a 5-step process including sleep, journaling, and forgiveness. http://cbsloc.al/1BJZXc7

A Conversation about Transgender Issues, and the Courage to Change with Henry Francis Doyle

#RealLiveTransAdult

“Although social acceptance for transgender people is growing, parents continue to abandon youth with gender-identity issues when their children need them most, advocates say. 49 percent of transgender people attempt suicide. Transgender youth account for 18 percent of homeless people in cities such as Chicago, but researchers estimate fewer than 1 in 1,000 people is transgender. 1 in 12 transgender people in America is murdered.”

Henry Francis Doyle grew up knowing that he was transgender but did not make the choice to medically transition until 37. “Part of the reason it took me so long to make that decision to medically transition, was there was a lack of information, a lack of evidence-based medicine, and there was just a lot of fear and change on my part about everyone in my life know who I was.”

Henry had been telling people he was trans since about 17 but did not yet realize a medical change was possible. In college, Henry felt more comfortable talking with classmates about feeling more male. He began to realize that care and love surpasses gender. That love doesn’t necessarily see gender.

“When I finally came out to my family, my world broke open.” Henry wrote a letter to tell his family how he felt, but never sent it. He kept it and carried it with him for years. “I had been thinking about how I was actually going to do this and handle this coming out to my family and I just really struggled with it for a long time.”

When Henry decided to seek his family’s blessings for the gender change, a sudden family emergency came up. His mom had a brain aneurysm that burst. Within 12 days, his mom was gone. Henry says that the last days with his mom were graced. “It was shocking, it was sudden, it was also a terrible and beautiful experience.”

Of course, the grief became the focus of the family and the work of the family. Henry’s mom was the only one, of his family, who knew who he was. She asked him not to transition, making the decision even harder. With gender as a foundational piece of identity, feelings that you are being recognized in the wrong way, can feel crazy and unsafe.

The Keys of Henry’s Process of Transition:
• November of 2013- Beginning of Hormone Therapy
• Embracing the Second Adolescence
• Being Surround by a Strong Support System

Each path is unique with different options. After years of binding the breasts and wearing compression garments, Henry is looking forward to life after a double mastectomy. Henry says if he does not wear the compression garments, even after years, he feels that he is in the wrong body. “Every single morning I can point to a moment when I actually begin to ignore my body.”

Violence and harassment often comes from misunderstanding. By bringing understanding we can “share space.”

Trauma and challenges take work and time but create growth.

Ending Conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo with Intel

Ending Conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo with Intel Over 5.4 Million Congo Civil Conflict Deaths …

Did you know that microprocessors, the brain of your electronic devices, contain minerals such as gold, tin, tantalum, and tungsten? These minerals are referred to as “conflict” minerals because they are often mined in conditions of armed conflict with the eastern provinces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Many miners are “hired” with life threats at gunpoint and physically forced to work harvesting these minerals. Work conditions are poor and dangerous. Realizing that their company’s supply needs could be inadvertently fueling such poor conditions and conflict for the people of the Congo, Carolyn Duran, and the Intel Corporation has made it their mission to make change in how their supplies are acquired.

“A small group of us got an action required to make sure the products we sell don’t have minerals in them that are not inadvertently or directly funding violence.”

Awareness it the first step to change. Consumers are mostly unaware that there is a terrorist group who uses the profits from these minerals to hurt innocent people and families, so Intel took the reigns and chose to find the solutions as both their consumers’ advocate and in the spirit of using business to change the world for the better. After awareness comes action. So, how can change begin? It takes…

1. Accepting responsibility for each part played in fueling the conflict.
2. Responsible sourcing from the Democratic Republic through systems to manage the mining of materials all the way through to exportation.
3. Lobbying of related industries to work together as a whole.
4. Building trust with mine workers.
5. Requiring resourcing documentation.
6. Reaching out and educating the general public in responsible purchasing practices.

Keeping responsible practices is a huge job as there are so many steps and industries involved in the process from mine to manufacturing. “As it was with Fair Trade and Organic in the tea business for us, I used to put it in perspective for our staff by saying ‘It takes a lot of paperwork to save the world!’” ~Zhena Muzyka

Standard business practices set the tone. Each industry cannot solve the conflict alone. It takes everyone working together. Small changes build upon one another to create larger change. It takes be willing to do your part and say, “How about you do this and I do this and together we’ll do something that makes it move even more.”

When company after company begins to realize that it matters, we see change.

“Be the change you want to see in the world.” ~Mahatma Gandhi

Are you ready to be a Change Maker?

“My work has always centered around wanting to lift people up and inspire.” J. Ivy

Really, I write poetry….

Not knowing he would be required to read it to the class, J. Ivy wrote a poem about clouds for an English assignment. Despite his embarrassment Ivy read the poem out loud upon his teacher’s request. His teacher was impressed and encouraged him to perform his poetry more in public. Now, J. Ivy cannot picture life any other way…

“I can’t imagine these years without poetry as my companion and the stage as my home.”

What do passion and purpose look like? It’s the progression of taking one guided step and then the next. “It was always one thing leading to the next…My purpose is to use my voice to help heal people.”

It was not planned or contrived, it was a gift followed. “My work has always centered around wanting to lift people up and inspire.” J. Ivy says he has been lifted by others and giving that back is his vision.

Ivy’s poetry comes from real emotions. He says that he never stopped moving in his purpose, so when opportunity knocked, he was prepared.

Dear Father: Breaking the Cycle of Pain
In his new book Dear Father, J. Ivy talks about the process of his poem after the same name and the healing power of forgiveness. After his parent’s divorce, Ivy spent ten years without seeing his father. The reflection brought on by writing, played a significant part in Ivy’s desire to forgive his father and move on to a better life.

It was then that an adored cousin gave Ivy some sound words to ponder…

“If you don’t forgive, you’re going to carry that pain the rest of your life.” @J_Ivy @mistressoftea

Ivy chose to forgive his father, “The day I decided to forgive, which was two weeks later on a Thursday, he called me up out of the blue after ten years.” A year and a half after Ivy and his Father reconnected, his father passed away. It took another conversation with his mother, after his father’s passing, for Ivy to write the poem and fully let go of the weight.

After some sharing, Ivy realized that the story behind the poem was even more compelling than the poem itself, and thus the book Dear Father was born. When you operate from the place of fear, you take away space from love, compassion, and joy. “I feel like you only have so much space inside and when you have all this junk piled up, you can’t clean out for that peace.” You can live a more peaceful existence by letting some of the junk go..

J. Ivy believes the path of Forgiveness led him to greater opportunities like the Kayne and Jay-Z recording session,
I hoped on the train of forgiveness, I plowed through that pain and then was this blessing waiting for me.” There is power in letting go.

The Creative Process

“One of the most beautiful feelings I have is buying a new notebook and knowing that I’m going to fill it up and then seeing it filled. There is something so special about that.”

Get the creative flow:

• Start with a fresh notebook
• Write by hand
• On the left page- free flow, no structure
• Take those words/phrases and tie them into a story, a project

Beautiful opportunity is waiting; we just have to stop getting in the way.

Advice to Younger Self
You already have inside of you everything you want to do and create. Be super confident, believe in yourself, and never stop. Learn lessons, but don’t get bogged down by them.

DREAM BIG

Now it’s your turn! Here is your writing prompt via Mr. J. Ivy:

“If I could embody every ounce of love, and do away with the hate, what could I create?” Let me hear your responses in the comments.

Activate the Genius Within, The Law of Emergence With Spiritual Life Coach Derek Rydall

Activate the Genius Within, The Law of Emergence With Spiritual Life Coach Derek Rydall

A Life Changing Near Death Experience

“Like so many people I was struggling to improve my life, to fix and heal, and get over my past and heartbreaks and bad childhood…. after many many years of self-improvement, the only think I improved was my ability to very articulately describe why my life was so messed up.”

Derek found himself lying in an emergency room; IV’s in his arms after almost dying from an overdose. The doctor told Derek he was lucky to be alive, but Derek didn’t feel that was the case. He was in a dark place, but it didn’t end there. Derek dug in deeper, tried harder and experienced some changes. It was just not enough…

Lost Physically, Emotionally, and Spiritually
Diving in a coral reef in Jamaica, Derek prayed to get lost from everything above. Derek did get lost, not in the way he wanted, but trapped amongst dangerous spiked coral and jellyfish. “I knew nobody was coming to rescue me because no one knew I was there.”

Thinking this was it; life on review with no way out, Derek had a flash of completion. Washed to a standing position, looking down into the place he had just been trapped, Derek realized it was a metaphor for his life. Stuck, gasping, drowning all leading up to a moment of surrender. That “coral reef” experience led to an epiphany…

Like Trying to Dig Yourself Out of a Deep, Dark Hole

The feeling of lack, all the resistance, was creating the suffering. The more you dig, the more you resist, the deeper into the hole you go. Pulling out of society, Derek went on an inner journey to connect with the “new” self he had discovered.

“Just as the oak is already in the acorn, and the acorn doesn’t go out and improve itself into an oak, or attract an oak, or achieve an oak or become worthy of an oak…When it surrenders to the soil, and the conditions match the pattern in the seed, that which is already inherent in it, fully emerges.”

The Law of Emergence- “When we surrender to the soil of our soul and create the conditions in our inner and outer lives that match the perfect pattern that was planted there, before we were planted in our Mother’s womb, it begins to emerge in our life. “

At the Core of Emergence? “I am Enough.” @derekrydall @mistressoftea

A Giving Economy, Not a Getting Economy
Knowing that you are enough, as is, switches your consciousness from a consumer to creator. (Would also make a nice tweetable) “Whatever is missing is what you are not giving.”

How do I Practically Apply the Law of Emergence to My Life?

Ask: What do I have to offer? It is not about a lack of resources, but a lack of resourcefulness. (Possible Tweetable) To be full of, connected to source again. Be a generator of energy, of gifts, of compassion.

Engineering The Law of Emergence:
• See the vision for your life
• Start with your desire and give yourself permission to live the life you want
• Define and describe your vision
• Create a plan of inner and outer strategies

Ask: How would I feel if I were living this vision? Who would I be if I were living this vision?

Begin to bring that excellence, service and generosity to where you are right now. Be congruent with the life you desire. Live your vision to the best of your ability in your present circumstances. Don’t wait. It is like tuning into a broadcast already in progress!
