The Astrology of the New Moon in Cancer

The New Moon on July 12th at 7:48 pm PDT is the first of three eclipses occurring during the next four weeks. We are experiencing heightened endings and beginnings. In exact opposition to Pluto, we can trust the moon will reveal something to us. Our evolution is possible and we can work towards the changes we are committed to, but need to be willing to tend our souls. 

If we wake up from a disturbing dream, what do we do? What if a child awoke from a nightmare? As you enter this lunar month, relate to whatever occurs like you are inquiring into a dream and as if you are your own child who needs to be touched, held, listened to, connected, and safe. Only profound tenderness can accommodate such extremes. The Cancer Moon inspires utmost gentleness and protectiveness of the softness in ourselves and others.

Charged energies compel we empower a feminine perspective and approach, while we are invited to encounter honestly dimensions of our psyche and patterns in community. We can emerge more liberated from destructive personal and cultural patterns, if we are willing to feel deeply and be responsible for our part in systemic dysfunction and conflict. Patience, listening, and empathy is required. Dramatic circumstances may arise. 

We are cautioned against righteous rebellion, and challenged to bring wisdom and a taste for uncertainty to whatever our passionate call.

Imagine that you can truly embody the sensitive crab, crawling carefully in shifting sand. As we traverse the shore, we protect our minds from fixation, retaliation, or blame by staying with feeling. We sense everything, the coming wind and waves, and we allow for change. We cannot hold still the sea, it washes over us, and we heal, accessing deeper and deeper levels of blessing and love. 

From our human shells, we can supplicate wisdom, listen to dreams, our bodies, grief, hurt, the moon, sun, and stars, and shape a home for our souls in the sand while we feast on magic. Stay vigilant, gentle, and brave. 

A Poem to the Cancer New Moon 

Eclipse drama 

While I open to the Sun, Moon, and Rain 

Totality of being 

and Ocean 

My deepest needs show me the way 

What we reject, we can inquire into 

A message in sand 

My guide, the wind 

It hurts really, 

But it’s time for change 

and tea

and loss

the birth of something I can’t yet imagine. 

Mother, family, and tribe, I miss you 

I celebrate you 

Your righteous vengeance I respect 

Your nourishment
I listen 

Dominate me if you long to 

Is this what you need?

I will not betray you any longer 

Because I will listen 

The Moon, Sea, Turtles, and Stars

Do not escape into poetry 

There is work to do 

Love to show
Most tender breaking heart 

May you stay with me too 

As we witness violence and repression 

In a spiral at your core 

Jump around and shift with the light on mountains 

Never-ending fear, 

I love you dearly

Let’s sit by this creak of self knowing 

and quiet waters

I traverse the unknown and keep my eyes open 

Sensing into skin and sound 

and belly 

There’s no unchanging voice

or answer

No righteous law 

To protect me

Wisdom is born within
